Why "Verse & Vine"
The name carries two ideas at once. "Verse" points to the tradition of Arabic calligraphy - words and verses rendered as art, a practice that stretches back centuries across Islamic art and architecture, where sacred text itself becomes the decoration. "Vine" points to the botanical framing that surrounds much of the collection - organic, winding motifs that echo the geometric gardens and vine patterns found in traditional tilework and manuscript illumination. Together, they describe what the collection actually is: poetry, held inside something that grows.
Words Chosen With Intention
Rather than decorative script for its own sake, we built this collection around specific words that carry real weight in daily life. Pieces like Tawakal (trust, or reliance upon God) and Shukar (gratitude) aren't abstract design choices - they're words many of our customers already say daily, in prayer or in passing conversation. Framed and hung in an entryway, a bedroom, or a prayer corner, they become a quiet, constant reminder rather than a one-time reading.

The challenge with calligraphic art has always been translation - taking something rooted in manuscript, ceramic tilework, or mosque architecture and making it feel considered in a contemporary living room or bedroom, not like a museum reproduction. We worked through that by pairing the calligraphy with the same restrained, modern framing used across all of MARSAM's collections: a solid pine floating frame, museum-grade archival inks, and jute fabric printing that gives the linework real texture rather than a flat, glossy finish.
